Learning To Savor Each Bite – The Importance Of Eating Slow

Savor Each Bite 1

As many of you know, I am currently enrolled in the Institute For The Psychology Program. I am only about 2 weeks in and my mind has already been blown away with all of the things I have learned! So, of course, I want to share some of this amazing knowledge with you! J

One of our first ‘optional’ reading books was “The Slow Down Diet” By Marc David. Well, when I say my entire view on eating has been changed, I am not kidding! I am probably one of the worst ‘eaters’ in the world! No, I don’t mean with the type of foods I eat. I mean with the speed at which I eat! I always knew I was a fast eater, but I didn’t realize how fast I was. I inhale my food!! I don’t even taste it! Eating patterns like this create a lot of distress both mentally, physically and emotionally. Wow! Who knew?!

Today I am going to share with you some of the reasons why Savoring Each Bite is so important! Hopefully this will help all the speed eaters out there (like me) slow down a bite and see some significant changes in both how you feel physically and how you look at food.

  1. Improves digestion
  2. Allows your mind to register that you are actually eating
  3. Will leave you feeling satisfied once your meal is done
  4. Will prevent food cravings
  5. Will help you sleep better
  6. Allows your body to better absorb the vitamins and minerals that you are eating
  7. Extends the pleasurable experience of enjoying a nice meal
  8. It helps shrink your waistline because you will take in fewer calories
  9. Relieves stress by taking your mind off other things and focusing on your delicious meal
  10. Makes you feel good!!

You are probably thinking the same thing I originally thought which was, “I could never eat slower.” My recommendation: Begin with one meal a day! Or even a snack! Once you find it easy for that single meal, add in a second and then a third. Eventually you will come to the point where the majority of you meals are eaten slower. Take note of how you feel when you eat fast vs how you feel when eating slower. I can say first hand that I have noticed dramatic changes in both my digestion and quality of sleep.

If you are like me and eat all of your meals very quickly or while multitasking, I truly encourage you to really challenge yourself and give this a try. If you would like to work on some further methodology to improving both your eating and health, then head HERE to schedule a complimentary consultation. We can create a personalized plan for your specific ailments to help you achieve both optimal mind and body!
