Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend! Mine was very busy, yet productive! Today, I am really excited to share with you this awesome new food scale from The Orange Chef (you all know how much I love gadgets) that allows you to customize and manage your nutrition all in one!

For those of you who follow me on Instagram (or twitter/facebook) you know that I track my macro nutrients on a daily basis. So, for me, this product is perfect! The prep pad (which you sync to your ipad) will show you all the nutritional breakdown over over 350,000 different foods! That’s insane! If something that you normally eat isn’t in there, you can also add it in and store it in your ‘favorites’. You can also create and store custom meals and recipes. The cool thing about being able to see the nutrition breakdown of each food is that it allows you to make a more informed choice when choosing foods because you can literally see the amount of protein/carbs/fats in each item.

On top of being a food scale and a place to track your personal nutrition I think it is also an educational tool. Most of us do not know the nutritional breakdown of most foods, so this will teach you!

So the first thing you do is set up your personalized goals:

Name, DOB, Gender, Height, Weight, Goal (lose/maintain/gain) and your activity level. Then it will tell you approximately how many calories you should be taking in per day.

Next you can decide what ratio of carbs/protein/fats you want to take in per day (or use the ones that are automatically given to you).

Then you can decide which Nutrients you would like to see tracked.

Once it is all set, this is what it will look like! Kind of cool, huh? It shows you all your goals on the bottom left (calories, carbs, fats, protein) and all your nutrients on the bottom right. The top left has a graph that will break down the percentage of carbs/fats/protein for either a meal, a day or a week. The right side shows you the food items for each.

Then you can weigh your food and see how the nutrition breakdown fits into your meal or day! This is showing that my apple is 208g.

Then it tells me that the apple would be 108 calories, 98% carbs (29g) and 2% protein with no fat. Isn’t that awesome! The inner and outer rings on the chart show you how closely the nutrition breakdown matches with your goals too.

At the end of the day you can look at your totals in numbers, percentages and graphs! (I am a huge numbers/statistics dork, so I LOVE that!)

It’s great because you can see if you need to add (for example) more protein to a meal or your day and then choose items that you like that fit into your needs. After using it for awhile, you will begin to know what items are mostly protein, fats or carbs and work them into your nutrition plan with ease!

The prepad will sync with any iPad 3 or newer (ipad 3, ipad 4 ipad air, ipad mini) and the iphone version comes out this month!

Like I mentioned above, I think this nutrition scale is awesome! But on top of being great because it is a food tracker and scale in one, I think the biggest thing for me in recommending it to you and my clients is that it is an educational tool! It will teach you so much about the nutrition in the foods that you are eating! Who doesn’t need a little nutrition education in their life! 🙂
