what makes you beautiful 1

Today’s post is a bit different than most that I have shared before. It is a bit emotional, but something I felt to be important that I share.
I was driving home after a great afternoon with my mom the other day and the song “What Makes You Beautiful” by One Direction came on the radio. I am really into the lyrics of songs and despite having heard this song a million times before, for some reason I really listened to the lyrics this day. In the song it says, “You’re insecure, don’t know what for. Everyone else in the room can see…..Everyone else but you. You don’t know what makes you beautiful” Hearing those words made me think about how many of us don’t stop to think about what makes us beautiful each day. For the most part, we rely on what others tell us (i.e your hair looks beautiful, you have beautiful eyes, etc) instead of looking inside ourselves to see our true beauty. It made me wonder why that was……
Are we just too busy? Do we not believe we are beautiful? Do we think that beauty lies only on the outside so we focus on the exterior instead of the interior? What exactly is the reason why so many (women especially) do not think they are beautiful?
I can tell you first hand that I have battled with this as well. It has taken me many years to learn to believe that I am truly beautiful; both inside and out. Learning to love yourself for what and who you are is no easy task. But it is so important that we DO love ourselves! It is a key ‘ingredient’ to our personal health recipe. We do not need to rely on others to tell us that we are beautiful. We should dig deep inside and tell ourselves daily how amazing we are!
I think the reason why these lyrics struck home with me today was because after an amazing day with my mom filled with sun, warmth, great conversation, iced coffee, frozen yogurt, shopping etc, it made me realize how beautiful life is. How it doesn’t matter how frizzy my hair is 😉 or if I have a zit on my face or what size my clothes are…..but that I am able to give and share love with people, bring a smile to someone’s face or be there for someone when they need me. I know that those things are part of what make me beautiful!
But this post isn’t only about me, but about YOU too! For the next 7 days, I want you to share one thing daily that makes you beautiful! Each day, for the next week, I will post something on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook reminding you to share your ‘beauty’ that day! You can also leave a message at the bottom of this post if you do not have any social media channels. Your beauty can be anything you want! My hope is that we can all begin to truly love ourselves by taking the time each day to say something positive! So, are you ready to join me in?

Today, Day 1 —

I am beautiful because………I am stronger each day both mentally and physically.

Your turn…….

Okay, Sarah, this is challenging because I don't put a lot of thought into why I think I'm beautiful every day, so here goes... Day 1 - I am beautiful because I have a great sense of humor. My goal is to make someone laugh at least once a day because laughter is good for the soul.

Sarah, I have no social media channels, (I am old. Ha!)so I'm posting my "beauty" comments here. Day 3 - I am beautiful because I am generous. (My second spiritual gift is 'giving'. ) I think this part of me drove my husband crazy for years, but now I notice him "giving" all the time. Isn't it funny how the longer you hang around someone the more you become like him or her. (I think there's a lesson for my kids here somewhere, don't you?) I'll be back Tuesday with Days 4-7. Have a great weekend!

Hello Sarah, As promised, here are days 4-7...I am beautiful because I am Dependable (you can count on me), Loyal (I stick like glue), Trustworthy (I do what I say I'm going to do), and I am humble. [grin]

  • Always challenging for me as you know.. I do know why I am this way though - the media, people, magazines & more have told me thru ads, what they publicize, how people treat you for your looks, my NOs from so many things I have applied for - these things tell me I am not enough. Not using as an excuse but explaining why so many women never think they are enough.. it is tough & then we get older & still not enough. I have gotten better but always a struggler - even now with more Nos.... but today I know I am stong from my workouts. :) Great post!

when you like yourself and accept your imperfection,it sets you free and nothing else matters. Then you can have a life of sunshine and refreshing breeze . But remember doing something good for other because it will enrich your life.
